  • About us: From the La Cantera Vineyard (rock quarry in Spanish), Bernard~Machado is a single-vineyard Pinot Noir named as homage to the winemaker’s California pioneer-vintner ancestors and to the La Cantera vineyard the winemaker planted in the 1980s at a 600-foot elevation above a rock quarry near Newberg.  Our wines are “Old World” and Burgundian in scope.  La Cantera I consists of 12 acres of own-rooted Pommard and Wädensvil with 1,550 vines per acre, planted in 1986–87.  La Cantera II consists of 16 acres planted in 1999; plants are grafted, including Wädensvil, 777 and 114 clones, and California’s Hanzell clone, planted 1,885 vines per acre.Bernard~Machado is a member of the WineWorks Oregon family of fine wines in McMinnville.  Grapes from La Cantera Vineyard also are used by other WineWorks Oregon producers, including Walnut City WineWorks and Jardim das Rochas.
